Religious fundamentalism. One of the worlds worst epidemics.
Islamic extremism. It plagues the Middle East and parts of Africa, and occasionally even places as unrelated as the United Kingdom and the United States.
Christian fundamentalism. It plagues parts of Europe and North America, the majority being concentrated in the United States.
Jewish fundamentalism. It plagues the state of Israel, and parts of North America and Europe, strictly enforcing the will of the Torah, just as Bible thumpers attempt to enforce the will of Christianity.
There are only a couple of religions that extremism and fundamentalism are not rampant with those who carry the faith. These rare and widely unknown religions in Western culture exist majorly in Asia, most notably India.
Hinduism and Buddhism are the least outspoken religions in the entire world, and the only religions that have never resorted to violence to enforce their will.
There are plenty of other religions that try to force there beliefs on others, but very rarely use violence, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, and Scientology, but these have large downsides such as the fact that they're the most ridiculous religions in existence (well, possibly not Jehovah's Witnesses, due to the fact that I am in no position to make a judgement on them because I know very little of the Jehovah beliefs.
Mormonism, on the other hand, is based off the beliefs of a man who did all he could to hide what he had found by using ridiculously obvious excuses.
Scientology, is just plain ridiculous. It was created by a science fiction writer who claims aliens came from space in ships that look almost completely like Boeing 747's.
He then goes on to claim that the aliens souls where dropped into the volcanoes of Hawaii, where they rose from the lava to create humanity.
I mean, how absolutely far fetched and ridiculously stupid can you get?
Religion in general is a completely ridiculous human ideology, but a religion based off the beliefs of a renowned science fiction writer, that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard of.

The world is meaningless,
there is no God or gods, there are no morals, the universe is not moving inexorably towards any higher purpose.
All meaning is man-made, so make your own, and make it well.
Do not treat life as a way to pass the time until you die.
Do not try to "find yourself", you must make yourself.
Choose what you want to find meaningful and live, create, love, hate, cry, destroy, fight and die for it.
Do not let your life and your values and your actions slip easily into any mold, other that that which you create for yourself, and say with conviction, "This is who I make myself".
Do not give in to hope.
Remember that nothing you do has any significance beyond that with which you imbue it.
Whatever you do, do it for its own sake.
When the universe looks on with indifference, laugh, and shout back, "Fuck You!".
Rembember that to fight meaninglessness is futile, but fight anyway, in spite of and because of its futility.
The world may be empty of meaning, but it is a blank canvas on which to paint meanings of your own.
Live deliberately. You are free.
